ORACLES: Lesson 40

My greatest desire is to please God and honor Him in my actions; with that said, I am very clear that it is possible to be sincere but wrong, presumptuous and mistaken, zealous but astray. I’m clear that with the responsibility of titles is a greater conviction to work out my salvation; and so today I invite you to consider that “work” with me.

Busyness in the works of God can be quite enjoyable, but it can also be a ploy used, deliberately or unintentionally, to obscure and distract us from the primary reason or focus for life. It’s a subtle but effective way to monopolize our days and make us— by default, define relationship with God as charity/service to others, or give greater merit to our sacrifices rather than our communion with God, or assume noble works within the local ministry as equivalent to earnest time with God. It’s an insidious way to keep any one of us so busy that we’re also so distant; and for this reason, I’m sounding the alarm!

You can’t replace your relationship with God with works for God! Keep first things first! We’re empowered when we reinforce our connection with our Father daily. So make time to talk (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and hear from God (Psalm 95:8). Make time to read and obey God’s Word. Be lead by His Spirit (Galatians 5:18). If we focus on building our relationship in these ways, God will give us work that will honor Him rather than distract from Him.

Jesus stayed connected with our Father, and through Him, He did mighty works. I believe we too can do many and mighty works if we prioritize our connection!
